1954 AUSTIN A40 SPECIAL

This car was constructed and built by Roddy Turner in 1953. It has an unusual design with the offset body due to the transmission running down one side of the car.

The car was raced by Don Matthews in the Fourth East London Winter Handicap in July 1954 as well as many other race meetings, including the Roy Hesketh Circuit in Natal.

The engine is an Austin A40 motor modified to stand at an angle with a new sump assemble mounted at the bottom.

Vehicle Specs: 4 Cylinder in-line engine; 4 Speed Gearbox; drum brakes on all 4 wheels.

The car was capable of a speed of 69 m.p.h.
